Itinerary
Day 1: Dynamic Bergen welcomes you
As you begin day one, you’ll arrive in Bergen, the second biggest city in Norway. Take a walk in the city center and get a feel of its dynamic atmosphere. The city’s history is easy to discover, from the medieval Bergenhus fortress to the Hanseatic wharf in Bryggen. But even with its 950 years of history, you’ll soon discover Bergen is still a lively place. A vibrant restaurant scene will leave you spoilt for choice for your dinner tonight!
Day 2: Walk with a local
On day 2, you’ll enjoy the insider scoop on Bergen. Your local guide will meet you at your hotel, and together you will explore some hidden gems that are rarely seen by tourists. Also, you will learn the history behind some of Bergen’s most famous landmarks.
Then, spend the rest of your day exploring the city on your own. From an active to relaxed feeling, you have an almost endless amount of options.
Day 3: Meet the open ocean
On day 3, you’ll leave city life behind as you head to Værlandet. Relax in coastal scenery on your drive heading north, and enjoy the typical snack of a coffee and svele aboard the ferry that takes you the last bit of the way.
Your destination is the westernmost fishing village in Norway, and there is almost nothing here between you and the open Norwegian sea. Feel the wind in your hair and scents of salty sea air.
Day 4: Explore on two wheels
Get to know Værlandet with a local guide, who was born and raised there. Then, feel nature up close as you cycle across the islands and bridges towards the open ocean. You’ll learn about the local way of life from your guide, and explore the unique geology, flora, and fauna that abound these islands. If you’re lucky you might spot a white-tailed eagle!
Day 5: Hike to the top
Welcome to day 5, where you’ll get the eagle’s view today! You’ll travel by boat to the island of Alden. This bit of rock is nicknamed “The Norwegian Horse”, as it rises straight up from the ocean. Then, you’ll take part in hiking, which is one of Norway’s favorite activities. When you arrive at the 481-meter peak, you’ll discover a panoramic view of the islands, mainland, and ocean.
Relax back on Værlandet and take in the view on your last night.
Day 6: From ocean to the fjord
A change of scenery awaits you today as you take the ferry and start driving east. Notice the changing landscapes as you get further inland, and take your time to stop along the way. You’ll enjoy the views of blue lakes and rising mountains, and you’ll start to see the white glaciers in the distance. At the end of your drive is the Lustrafjord, which is your home for the next few days.
Day 7: Experience Lusterfjord by kayak
The fjord is waiting for you! You’ll get a personal experience of the natural surroundings with a kayak tour on the fjord. Learn about life by the fjord from your local guide, and keep your eyes open for local wildlife, such as seals and porpoises.
After that, you’ll explore at your own pace the rest of the day, and travel back in time with a visit to a traditional stave church. See the power of nature with a hike to a waterfall.
Day 8: Drive to the roof of Norway
Explore the contrasts today as you climb the altitude in your car on one of the country’s most scenic drives. Let changing landscapes roll past your window, and see the country’s highest mountains rise ahead. Don’t miss the selected viewpoint along the way!
At the end of the road is the village of Lom, where you’ll indulge in a lunch of traditional Norwegian cuisine (which Lom is famous for!) In addition, countless trails await if you feel like stretching your legs.
Day 9: Scenic route back to Bergen
Now it’s time to head back to Bergen, where you’ll enjoy the drive on a national scenic route. You will even drive through the world’s longest road tunnel! Plenty of interesting stops are possible along the way, and history lovers can experience the Viking lifestyle in a recreated Viking village. Alternatively, you can stop for a scenic lunch atop a mountain in Voss.
Spend your last evening in Bergen city center with all it has to offer.
Day 10: Pack up your memories
Get a last look at Bergen before heading to the airport. Your adventure has come to an end, but you are welcome back any time!
