Responsible Tourism Policy

RESPONSIBLE TOURISM POLICY

Traveling with respect, purpose, and pride

At Ethical Norway, we believe that travel can be a force for good.

Our goal is to create journeys that bring joy, understanding, and benefit — to both travelers and the people and places we visit.

This policy outlines how we work and what we stand for, so that together we can make travel in Norway more meaningful, fair, and sustainable.

1. Our Commitment

Ethical Norway is guided by three strong values:

  • Responsibility – We travel in ways that respect nature, people, and culture.
  • Transparency – We show where your money goes and who benefits.
  • Local Pride – We celebrate Norwegian heritage, community, and everyday stories.

We design every journey with these values in mind — ensuring that tourism contributes positively to local livelihoods, the environment, and cultural understanding.

2. Our Approach to Responsible Travel

🌿

Environmental Care

We minimize our environmental footprint by:

  • prioritizing low-impact travel options, such as trains, EVs, and walking-based activities,
  • supporting local suppliers who reduce waste and emissions,
  • calculating and sharing carbon footprints through our STOMP platform,
  • promoting slow travel and longer stays instead of fast, high-volume tourism.

🏡

Community Wellbeing

We believe local communities should benefit directly from tourism.

That’s why we:

  • partner with small, locally owned accommodations and businesses,
  • ensure fair pay for guides, hosts, and artisans,
  • promote regional food, crafts, and traditions,
  • share stories through Resonate — giving voice to locals and strengthening cultural pride.

🤝

Cultural Respect

We encourage travelers to engage with an open heart and mind.

We ask everyone to:

  • learn simple local customs and greetings,
  • ask before photographing people or private property,
  • listen, learn, and leave space for local stories,
  • travel slowly — not to tick off sights, but to build memories.

3. For Our Partners

We work only with partners who share our values.

Each local supplier, host, and guide commits to:

  • fair working conditions and transparent pricing,
  • ethical use of resources,
  • safety and inclusion of all travelers,
  • honest representation of people and culture.

We also support partners in improving their sustainability performance through open collaboration and shared learning.

4. For Our Travelers

We invite all travelers to be part of this shared responsibility.

Small actions make a big difference:

  • use refillable bottles and bags,
  • respect local wildlife and natural spaces,
  • buy locally made products,
  • support community-led activities,
  • leave places better than you found them.

Together, we can make travel a tool for regeneration — not depletion.

5. Our Continuous Effort

Responsibility is a journey, not a checkbox.

We regularly review our policies, measure our impact through STOMP, and share updates publicly to remain transparent and accountable.

We are proud to be part of the global Tourism Declares a Climate Emergency movement, continuously seeking ways to reduce our footprint and act for the planet.

6. Join the Movement

When you travel with Ethical Norway, you’re part of something bigger — a shared effort to keep Norway authentic, thriving, and inspiring.

Let’s explore responsibly. Let’s make travel matter.
