Guidelines for Our Good-to-Go Trips

Guidelines for Our Good-to-Go Trips

Save for later
Travel slower. See more. Leave a lighter footprint. Our trips are built around time, place, and people. You stay longer, go deeper, and experience destinations beyond the obvious. We prioritise local businesses, small stays, and meaningful experiences that benefit communities and respect nature. It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing it right - thoughtful routes, lower impact, and journeys that stay with you long after you return.

Trips we plan

Our focus is on slowing down and truly getting to know a place – less is often more

Travel with responsibility and sustainability at its core

All trips are planned to create value for local communities and their natural surroundings by prioritising locally owned businesses, guides, social enterprises and respectful use of nature.

We prioritise products and services that emphasise quality and sustainability, appealing to travellers who value and are willing to pay for meaningful experiences.

We focus on destinations that are off the beaten path, well-prepared for and able to handle visitors, while always encouraging responsible behaviour and conservation awareness.

We work actively to extend the travel season across all destinations. We divert visitors away from areas affected by overtourism and towards places with available capacity. At the same time, we encourage travellers to stay longer and explore more in the places they visit.

We also aim to showcase a diversity of experiences: nature, cultural heritage, and contemporary local life.

  • Travel more slowly: Trips should be at least 10 days long, with a minimum of two nights per destination. Every trip must include at least one destination with a three-night stay
  • Extend the season: Plan trips suitable for shoulder and off-season travel as well.
  • Ease the pressure: Avoid overcrowded hotspots, focus on less-visited places.
  • Stick to specialities: For trips that start/end in Bergen or Oslo, we do not include these two cities in the itineraries (as they’re easy for travellers to add themselves).
  • Always remember authenticity: Every trip should present a true and realistic picture of destinations, products, and services. That can mean offbeat options, long stays, slow food, soft activities provided by small local companies, interaction with locals, and immersive heritage experiences.

How we travel

We use our expertise as local specialists to design journeys where the mode of travel itself becomes part of the adventure.

  • Travel slowly: Keep movement to a minimum, with road trips limited to about three hours of driving between destinations.
  • Travel like a local: Use public transportation where possible, making it part of the experience, rather than just a means of transport.
  • Use electric cars: Where relevant, plan routes with accessible charging stations.
  • Travel to/from Norway: Promote trains, ferries, or buses as alternatives to flying, highlighting greener ways to reach the country.
  • Carbon awareness: Minimise the footprint of each trip, and provide travellers with information about low-emission options.

Experiences we offer

Our experiences are immersive, inviting travellers to dig deeper into culture, join local activities, connect with local suppliers, and enjoy short-travelled products.

We promote local suppliers, small independent guiding, and soft-activity companies.

We include nature-based activities adapted to international guests who may be unfamiliar with Norwegian nature. Our aim is to guide the right guest to the right trail at the right time.

We avoid motorised activities (such as RIB boats), unless they are certified and environmentally responsible.

We do not include experiences that involve animals in captivity (like visits to zoos) or harmful wildlife encounters. Wildlife-based activities must always be ethical, respectful, and conservation-supportive.

  • Focus on local culture, history, traditions, and nature
  • Remember that less is more; days aren’t packed too full of activities
  • Include immersive activities with locals, short-travelled products, and authentic stories
  • Prioritise quality and sustainability (for guests willing to pay for meaningful experiences)
  • Adapt nature-based activities for internationals (right guest, right trail, right time)
  • No motorised activities unless certified and eco-friendly (or unavoidable!)
  • No captive animals or harmful wildlife encounters

Where we stay

We recommend hotels and accommodations that, where possible:

  • Have a strong environmental and social profile
  • Are certified (add link)
  • Are locally owned
  • Offer a boutique-style experience
  • Focus on building warm host–guest relationships
  • Promote the local culture, tradition and history of the place
  • Prefer certified and locally owned stays
  • Have a small-scale, boutique style
  • Foster strong host–guest relationships
  • Share clear accessibility information

Where we eat

We recommend restaurants that:

  • Focus on locally sourced and regional ingredients
  • Highlight seasonal fruit and vegetables
  • Make it easy to eat less-travelled food and reduce food miles
  • Celebrate and promote local cuisine
  • Contribute positively to the local food economy and community
  • Recommend seasonal dishes and foods
  • Support the local food economy

How we inform

  • We communicate not only the Right to Roam (allemannsretten) but also the duties (allemannspliktene) that come with it, guiding guests towards respectful and considerate behaviour in nature and in local communities.
  • We provide clear information about environmentally friendly travel choices, both to and from the destination and during the stay.
  • Products and services with environmental certification are always highlighted with the “Reis Grønt” symbol.
  • We ensure that accessibility information is transparent and accurate, so each traveller can decide if an experience suits their needs.
  • We include safety and preparedness information: weather conditions, packing guidance, cultural norms, road safety, and emergency support.

These are the guidelines we use to plan our trips, reflecting the values we care about most—slow travel, authenticity, sustainability, and respect for local communities and nature. While we acknowledge that it is not always possible to meet every guideline perfectly on every trip, we nevertheless aim to follow these principles as closely as possible and make thoughtful decisions to ensure every journey aligns with our values.
